Establishment of Modern Waste and Spilled Oil at Mongla Port
Establishment of Modern Waste and Spilled Oil Management at Mongla Port refers to a major environmental infrastructure project at Mongla Port in Bangladesh that has recently been inaugurated to handle maritime waste and oil residues safely and efficiently.
This Port Reception Facility (PRF) was set up to collect, treat, and dispose of waste and oily water from ships in accordance with the MARPOL Convention, helping prevent marine pollution and protect the Pashur Channel and the Sundarbans ecosystem.
The project includes modern equipment such as oil‑recovery vessels, waste collection vessels, treatment plants, barges, tugboats, and jetties. After treatment, a large portion of the waste is converted into reusable resources, reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainable port operations.
By improving the port’s waste and spilled‑oil handling capability and complying with international environmental standards, this facility strengthens Mongla Port’s role as an eco‑friendly maritime hub.
